Saw-whet Skunked

Saw-whet skunked!

A trip to Berks County in search of a monitored Saw-whet Owl turned up only some fresh “white wash” — the telltale sign of where the owl had perched after its monitor pinged around 10 p.m. last night in a dense stand of rhododendron. The bird had clearly moved on to another roost site.

Five miles of walking later, and despite striking out on the owl, it was still a rewarding day — my first time ever birding Berks County, with 31 species identified during our sojourn.
