That staccato rattle of a Belted Kingfisher might be one of my favorite sounds in the outdoors.
It just so happens this bird shares water with my favorite fish—and while some anglers grumble about fish-eating birds, I see it differently. This is shared habitat. Shared water. A place we all rely on for restoration, comfort, and connection.
Fun fact: in a rare twist in the bird world, female Belted Kingfishers are actually the show-stoppers. ✨
Females wear a beautiful orangish-pink belt across their belly, while the males stick with the classic blue and white.
Nature loves breaking its own rules—and that’s part of the magic. 🐦💧
